Original Drawings and Commissioned Works
This commissioned piece was created for the Church as a special retirement gift for their pastor of many years. This was a particularly interesting commission, since I observed this building from one of my classrooms over a period that spanned nearly forty years. Located on West 10th Street, across from Cathedral Preparatory High School, my students frequently included it in their sketches of the urban landscape. Having the opportunity to do a detailed drawing of the facade of Luther Memorial Church was a challenge and a treat. The complexities of the stonework, the windows and archways give one an appreciation for the stone masons' art, a skill all to often taken for granted. The image will be available during the upcoming 150th Anniversary. This drawing was my last commissioned drawing of 2009.
