Original Drawings and Commissioned Works
This original drawing of the EHCA building was commissioned as a special retirement gift for the director, Mr. Paul Carpenedo, who served in this position for over 25 years. Erie Homes for Children and Adults is a nonprofit agency serving children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing quality residential and community-based programming in Erie, Crawford, Venango, and Potter counties. Founded in 1912, EHCA has evolved into a multi-program agency helping nearly 400 people with disabilities each day to live rich and fulfilling lives.
This drawing presented a myriad of textures and materials, as well as an architectural style that is quite different from others found in Northwestern PA. A challenging subject, it allowed me the opportunity to work with such diverse materials as stucco, the tile roof, reflections, plants and trees and intricate shadows. Altogether, a most enjoyable piece to be a part of. As a tribute to its director, the facility has been named The Paul Carpenedo Commons.
